Chiles

The chili was paramount to the ancient Mexicans. In the cities of Teotihuacan, Tula, Monte Alban, for example, have found traces of a large chili consumption among residents. And the Aztecs had developed a culture of chile, many aspects of which still continues today, truly amazing.
Here again, as in many others, it is essential work of Fray Bernardino de Sahagun to understand Mexican culture. In his monumental History of the Things of New Spain, written in the college of Santa Cruz de Tlatelolco in the second half of the sixteenth century, the Franciscan friar entered numerous data about the chili. The Aztecs used not only as an essential part of your daily diet, but he had been given a remarkable diversity of uses: military (chili smoke thrown into the fire today was used as war gases are used), medicinal, commercial, tax and even teaching: a little smoke inhaled chili served to correct a stubborn child, as witness some scenes of the codices. The goddess of chilli they called "red chilito Respectable lady" and was the sister of Tlaloc, the rain master, and Chicomecoatl, Mistress of the maintenance.

Although comparatively little is known of the sexual life of the Aztecs and other peoples
Mesoamerica, it is clear that good chile was among the ancients, both by their morphology and by character, about things of Venus, or, more precisely, with things Tlazolteotl, the Aztec goddess of carnal love. Commenting on the tie with the pre-Columbian venereal appetites attributed to the chile, the same slogan Sahagun during festivities Macuilxochitl god, Lord of the flowers, dance, games and love, men and women taking part in the celebration, four days subjected to rigorous fasting, abstaining, as a precautionary measure, to eat chili. Who broke the fast was punished by the fiery god, who the offender was suffering illnesses "in the secret parts." In any case, the prohibition of eating chili during the fasting ritual remains a common practice among some indigenous peoples.
